Remuneration is therefore an important element, but contrary to what we think it is not necessarily a motivating factor (at least not the most important). It can even prove to be a demotivating factor...

Here are the 5 factors that play the most part in career motivation:

1. Professional recognition

Today, employees are constantly objectified and are sometimes asked too much. The lack of recognition creates stress in this very competitive world. It is up to the company to find a happy medium so as not to discourage them but rather to encourage them. It must involve them in projects, take into account their proposals and objections.

Dialogue is the key to success in business, you should not hesitate to regularly make points, whether positive or negative. The manager must value the work of employees, highlight their investment and contribution and rely on concrete and explainable things. Finally, he must recognize their skills by objectifying them personally, which will motivate them more.

2. Working conditions

Material working conditions also play a role in motivating employees. Indeed, the layout of the offices, the lighting, the noise level or the ergonomics of the equipment play on productivity.

Working hours and schedules also have an impact, as studies now show that flexibility is a motivating factor. Employees are reassured knowing that they can take time off if their child is ill or if they have an unexpected event and their work becomes less routine. The quality of work is also taken into account; it is important to do multi-faceted and non-monotonous tasks.

Inverse tasks increase the degree of difficulty and the risk of poor health (musculoskeletal disorders). Relational working conditions are a motivating factor because human relationships and communication are essential.

A good manager must communicate to get to know his employees, while remaining professional, to move his team forward. By doing this he avoids a bad atmosphere and a competition that will lead to stress and suffering.

3. Culture and the business project

The culture and the corporate project, or even the feeling of belonging, allow your employees to invest in the long term. They are interested and feel more concerned, which is a real motivator. It must come from the manager since he is the conductor and his positioning is automatically felt. If it is positive, endowed with the desire to share and unite, employees will feel involved and a group spirit will be formed, which often bodes well for the company.

4. Management and communication

Good management requires good communication, how do you want to move forward and develop together without communication? Communication is crucial, employees are all different professionally and personally. By communicating, the manager will make the most of each person's potential and increase their productivity. Visibility is essential, everyone must have a clear vision of the goals and what is happening within their structure. It is advisable to hold regular meetings to review past events and explain future ones in order to involve employees. A good communication policy also limits conflicts and facilitates dialogue; regular feedbacks help to motivate employees.

5. The development of professional skills

An employee needs to know that they can grow and that you can help them through training or tutorings.Nobody wants to do exactly the same thing all their life, and letting employees get tired is what makes them lose their motivation. The development of professional skills is as important for employees as it is for the company. For employees, it is important to know how to manage their time, their stress, increase their autonomy and their effectiveness in order to properly hold their current or future position. For companies, it is a real challenge to optimize their internal knowledge and performance.
